Job Overview
Role Objectives
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Energy and Sustainability Manager to provide a complete and comprehensive energy and sustainability management service across both University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, Coventry and Hospital St. Cross, Rugby. Your role is pivotal in ensuring the service we provide is driven by our core purpose: enhancing patient care and experience. Your commitment to excellence will ensure that our facilities not only meet but exceed expectations, ultimately contributing to a positive and supportive healthcare experience.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy and sustainability management, particularly within healthcare facilities, with sound knowledge of current Health, Safety, Environmental and Fire Legislation, Industry standards, Health Building Notes (HBNs) and Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs) and will be responsible for ensuring that a robust reporting system is maintained, up to date, and to the highest quality standards.
Main Duties
Energy Management
* Energy Contracts. Support with all energy supply contracts with forecasting and collaborating with third parties responsible for procuring for the Trust and ensure that security and continuity of supplies are always maintained.
* Measurement. Monitor energy usage ensuring accurate records and reports which monitor utility performance which supports the completion of ERIC returns to the Department of Health.
* Energy Performance. Monitor energy usage and maintain accurate records for energy performance in contractual areas, as well as site wide keeping detailed records and reports.
* Investigate and mitigate instances of higher-than-forecasted energy consumption, identifying the root causes and implementing corrective actions when possible.
* Monitor non-trust energy usage provided by UHCW, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of energy consumption, which is used by the client when claiming costs back from non-trust parties.
* Produce an Annual Energy Report for the Trust to comply with contractual obligations and covering data to the clients specific need which can also be used for Audit requirements.
* Maintain clinical and other departments at required temperatures and environmental conditions as specified on the room data sheets.
* Monitor the energy performance of buildings and areas, plant and equipment whilst maintaining the environmental conditions.
* Professional Advice. Advise on energy consumption requirements and revenue cost implications of:
* Estate upgrading/modernisation schemes and new developments (e.g. lifecycle replacement, energy saving projects).
* Third party management- Manage and be a 1st point of contact with utility suppliers, distribution network, wholesalers, MOPs, MAMs, Data collectors, for information related to energy, meter reads, faulty meters, meter inspections, leaks, meter exchanges, maintenance and other site visit when necessary.
* Energy Forecasts - Develop and implement detailed utility usage forecasts and establish precise energy consumption targets to guide the organisation towards more efficient energy use, which can be used by clients when setting up targets.
* Data collection - Collect, analyse, and interpret meter readings, including half-hourly data, to ensure accurate tracking and monitoring of energy consumption patterns. Identify and rectify any discrepancies or issues with historical energy data to maintain the integrity and accuracy of energy records.
* Client Meetings- Participate actively in monthly Energy Meetings with the PFI Energy Committee, providing expert insights and contributing to strategic energy management discussions, and manage actions from the meeting. Represent Mitie in other energy related topic such CHP/Net Zero/Climate change client meetings.
* Energy Related Queries- Implement energy-related actions derived from client meetings, emails or other forms of communication, ensuring that all agreed-upon measures are executed effectively to enhance energy efficiency, and records are kept of activities to be shared monthly with the client.
* Utility Footprint Reporting- Monitor and report on the sites' carbon footprint on a monthly and annual basis, providing data that supports the organisation's sustainability objectives.Indirect Carbon Footprint- Manage and create a record of Mitie data which is shared with the client to calculate Scope 3 indirect carbon footprint, for operations such as Business operations, travel to work, waste, projects and other indirect functions.
* Reporting. Produce an annual and monthly Energy Reporting for circulation within Mitie and the Trust and Project co (together with monthly progress reports) detailing: energy performance achieved, energy initiatives, future energy plans and energy related project which will improve performance (energy conservation). ERIC / PAM.
* Monitoring of internal and external temperature- Conduct comprehensive monitoring of internal and external temperatures monthly, utilising data such as Degree Day data and clinical temperature breaches of 28°C, as recorded by the Building Management System (BMS).
* Compile and submit detailed temperature reports to clients monthly for ERIC, ensuring that all data is accurately presented, and any significant findings are highlighted.
* Investigate any areas of concern where temperature breaches exceed expected levels, identifying potential causes and determining whether these are due to internal issues or external factors such as weather conditions.
* Develop and implement strategic solutions to address and rectify higher-than-expected temperature breaches, ensuring that all corrective actions are effectively executed and documented.
* Nominated Person. As Mitie's nominated person to monitor the energy performance of the estate, the Nominated Person will support and assist with ensuring that all energy-related concerns are addressed promptly and effectively. Highlighting the implications of excessive energy usage and fostering a continuous commitment to energy-saving practices, which are shared with clients.
* Compliant Resolution. Be the point of contact for dealing with complaints from Trust personnel in regard to the deviation of energy related or environmental conditions from their optimum performance levels (i.e. temperature in operating theatres).
* Energy Management Non-Compliance Incidents (NCI)Ensure the Trust's clinical and health care service requirements are not exposed to any unacceptable risks through energy interruptions or disconnections.
* Monitoring the energy performance of the estate through and implement in monthly energy reports and accompanying analysis and the yearly energy report required by the Trust annually.
* Policies and procedures - Ensure Mitie complies with all environmental policies and regulations by regularly reviewing and updating policies, conducting audits and assessments to verify compliance, and implementing corrective actions as needed. Create toolbox programmes to educate staff on environmental compliance and practices as well as H&S when working around meters.
* Validating of energy bills- Validate and audit utility invoices for electricity, gas, and water to ensure financial accuracy and prevent any billing errors, which have been charged to client. Accurately report and compare historical utility bills to the client, ensuring transparency and accountability in energy usage.
Sustainability - Collaborate closely with members of the PFI to develop and agree upon a comprehensive sustainability strategy that aligns with the specific constraints and requirements of the PFI contract. Focusing on achieving Net-Zero emissions and advancing decarbonisation efforts across the sites. Work in partnership with PFI stakeholders to identify feasible and impactful sustainability initiatives.
Environmental - Ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations, including DSEAR, ERIC, and PAM, to uphold the organisation's commitment to environmental responsibility.
-Maintain and update the Environmental Impact Register, ensuring that all records are current and accurately reflect the organisation's environmental impact.
* Wider Management Responsibilities
Support the team with compliance-related tasks as necessary, which may not always be directly related to energy but are crucial for meeting organisational deadlines and actions. This includes assisting with various compliance activities.
Manage all aspects of the Energy services to ensure statutory and contract compliance is in place.
Complete Mitie's current management training programme via Mitie's Training Hub and any other relevant course related/required for the role.
Attend regular meetings internally and externally to review all aspects of service delivery as directed by management. Ensure meetings notes are taken, recording all actions with a due date and owner. Complete all personal actions, and ensure Subordinates complete assigned actions, in a timely manner.
Document any request for contract variations and coordinate with the account's Manager to implement those changes in accordance with the contract variation.
Monitor Performance Standards set out in contract related to the energy services ensuring those standards are achieved as evidenced by no financial deductions.
Challenge and promote safe working ensure Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) compliance is at the forefront of what is delivered as evidenced by application of Mitie's LiveSafe procedures, continuous improvement of Hazard Observations reported through Mitie's LiveSafe application, no Lost Time Accidents (LTA) or serious workplace accidents, occupational diseases or specified dangerous occurrences (near misses) as defined by the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).
Ensure effective Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) are used for all energy works carried out by Mitie employees or subcontractors as evidenced by documented, readily available RAMS.
Manage and monitor subcontractors in accordance with Mitie Policy and Procedures.
Perform related duties as assigned, within your scope of practice. All employees who work in the Estates department are expected to cover for each other during shifts, weekends, holidays or if someone is absent. This means you may have to take on tasks outside the normal scope of your job.

You will be expected to use a computer and various programs competently during your working day.
The role requires the flexibility to work not only in your base Custody suite but across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area

You will be working in a small team alongside Police Officers: whilst also having the support of experienced Senior Custody Detention Officers to learn from.
Training
Once you have passed our selection and vetting process, you will begin your Police Services career by completing a 3-week initial training course (ITC) Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm on FULL PAY. You will then have continued development.

* To act as finance support to the site finance manager supporting with finance related activities such as purchase order raising WIP reporting and accurate quoting.
* Ensure all month end reporting is delivered in an accurate and timely manner to the site Finance Manager
Main Duties
* Creating Quotes, Purchase Orders and Manual Payments in a timely manner to comply with company and customer timeframes.
* Raising adhoc and annual Purchases Orders for all subcontractors and ensuring they are paid in a timely manner.
* Updating the quotes tracker and uploading quotes to the client approval system in a timely manner
* Provide dedicated support and hence develop strong relationships with client to improve contract performance.
* Assist the Site Finance Manager with any monthly or weekly governance reports and adhoc information.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll be working on a high-profile four-year contract with Great Western Railway (GWR), supporting engineering maintenance, facilities management, and new installations across over 200 stations and six depots. Spanning from London to Penzance, including South Wales, the West Country, and the Cotswolds, the GWR network covers more than 1,997 kilometres and operates over 1,600 daily services. Mitie has developed a dedicated engineering solution for this essential part of the UK's transport infrastructure and is also supporting GWR's ambitious energy reduction programmes.
No two days are the same; one moment you could be carrying out a routine inspection, and the next, troubleshooting an urgent breakdown. Here's a glimpse of what your journey could include:
* Developing core skills and knowledge to conduct routine maintenance tasks, and minor planned and responsive repair works.
* Use a broad range of fundamental trade skills including carpentry, joinery, plumbing, plastering, brick and block work, external works and associated finishing trades including tiling, painting, and decorating
* Collaborating with your experienced mentor to gain hands-on experience.
* Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards, making safety and sustainability a priority in every task.
As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Property Maintenance Operative Level 2 qualification which normally runs for 18 months. You will be fully supported by our partnered training provider, GLP Training, to achieve this qualification by having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice. As part of your training, you will attend GLP Training Centre's in Worcester every 3 months for 2-3 days. All travel expenses and accommodation will be covered for you to attend this training.
